About National Silver Academy (NSA)
The National Silver Academy (NSA) is a network of post-secondary education institutions (PSEIs) (i.e. ITE, polytechnics, universities and arts institutions) and community-based organisations that offer learning opportunities that are subsidised for seniors. Seniors and PRs aged 50 years and above can look forward to attending short courses and bite-sized courses that are exam free. For courses run by community-based organisations, the final fee payable – for both Singaporean and Permanent Resident seniors – takes into account the support given by the government to community-based organisations to develop and offer the short courses.
About The Singapore Association for Continuing Education (SACE)
The Singapore Association for Continuing Education (SACE) is a registered charity with MOE. It offers over 80 courses under the National Silver Academy, most of which are highly subsidised for Singaporeans & Permanent Residents aged 50 and above. SACE serves the continuing learning needs of adults of all ages.

Objective | Participants will learn about key culinary herbs grown in South East Asia. Their common usage and also key aspects of the herb plant taxonomy. Participants will also receive detailed know how of different growth media that can be used and relevant growing conditions for the featured culinary herbs. During propagation session, participants learn about the most suitable propagation methods and how to maintain the herbs well for long term usage. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct hands on propagation of selected herbs and bring back cuttings for own practice. Participants will get some tips on how to use these herbs in flavouring, cooking and concoction of refreshing drinks. |
Description | Grow common culinary herbs using different potting media and understanding optimal growing conditions. Learn their usages and the techniques in propagating them to ensure continuous supply in their growth environment. |
Trainer | Darren Ng
Darren was a NParks ambassador for the ‘Community in Bloom’ programme where he conducted Orchid Gardening workshops for NParks and the National Library. He has also conducted the Asian Herbs and Cultivation workshop at Sunrise Global Chef Academy and Swarovski Singapore. He is leader of the Siglap South Community Centre garden interest group and organises many gardening workshops and community events. His qualifications include Bachelor of Science (Botany, Hon 2nd Upper) from NUS, 6 Sigma Black Belt and has certications for various courses on Situational Leadership, Lateral Leadership, NLP. |
